Hello-
I am Robert Sullivan. I have gamed in different formats for years and wrote a few pdf books for 3.5 (Banking Guild, Mechamancy, Lords of Sorrow - Lichs). Soon I will be going to Bulgaria with the Peace Corps. In part due to my age and in part due to going to a new (to me) nation, I want to take a rpg more manageable than 3.5 or even 4E. True20 seems to fit the bill.

Hi, I'm Rafael, from Brazil. We just came across True20 and we're going to be playtesting next sunday. I'm excited, so far I love how simple the system looks and how brutal the combat feels, in comparison to D&D3.
I personally had dropped D&D (after playing for several years) in favor of GURPS because, among other reasons, I was tired of seeing characters and enemies being stabbed dozens of times before dying, and kind of dying all-of-a-sudden. I think True20 fixed that beautifully and I'm bringing it to my game table right away.
This HAS GOT to be the hardest forum to register ever. Mandatory mixed case letters, numbers AND symbols on a password? Please...

Welcome, Rafael! Yes, True20 combat can be very brutal, but the beautiful thing is that you can tweak it all the way to cinematic if you want, just by controlling the flow of Conviction and making liberal use of minions.

Rolling onto the True20 boards rather late. The system seems to work rather well for a number of concepts and ideas that I've been tinkering with. Also, I was wondering how long it usually takes for new posts to be moderated and approved. Thanks.

Welcome! First posts usually take a couple of days, but after that it's instantaneous. True 20 is pretty slick and versatile. I've been impressed by the breadth it allows. Good luck.

Newbie checking in. Discovered True20 while searching for a not-crappy steampunk setting. Found Imperial Age: True20 Edition and got introduced to the system.
Currently starting a Freeport campaign irl.

Welcome, all. Snorb wrote:I'm trying to get my group to like True20!
Good luck. In my experience, folks either come around almost immediately or they take forever (about two years ) to realize that it's for them. So, don't get discouraged if it takes a while.

Guess I ought to introduce myself, as well. I've been into RPGs since Final Fantasy III (VI) on the SNES, but I've only ever played in a few pen and paper games. At first, I loved D&D 3.5 because of all the options, then I realized that while there were a ton of classes and feats out there, I could never really set up a character the way I wanted. I experimented with Palladium and GURPS for a bit, but Palladium was too setting-centric and GURPS gave a bewildering array of options that I couldn't really wrap my head around. And then I found True20. I liked that it combines the GURPS-like flexibility with D&D-like gameplay and guidelines. If anyone has any advice for starting or getting into a game group (even if it's just play-by-post), let me know. I've been dying to get a game going.

Hi! I'm Eric.
I'm a writer/comedian by trade, and I thought that creating a world for an RPG would be a good way to throw some of my spare creative energy around. I also thought it might be a good way to turn multiplayer gaming back into a social experience, rather than conversing with my friends through headsets.
My tabletop RPG background is spare at best. I played a bit of D&D in the late 80s, and ran a Star Wars game for a while (the old West End Games one). Recently, I picked up the D&D Red Box and played it with a couple of friends. We liked it fine enough, but when I looked into what I would need to buy to run a game, I was really put off by the financial commitment and the piles and piles of rules. Also, I thought it took itself a little too seriously for my taste.
I picked up the True20 book and the Companion in the "used" section of my local gaming store, and tore through them. I realized this was exactly what I was looking for: A simple, straightforward set of rules that I could adapt to a variety of settings. I then bought the Narrator's Kit, a handful of d20s, and a pad of graph paper.
I'm going to try to run a couple of games with my friends using some of the existing worlds to see how they like it (I'm particularly intrigued by the adventure that comes with the Narrator's Kit), and if they're down for it, I'll start constructing my own setting. I'm thinking a modern, quirky, "Buckaroo Banzai" nerd-pulp thing.
Hopefully my friends will like it enough that I'll have to keep coming here to pester all of you for help!
Eric
