Virus?

Postby Ragwaine » Mon Aug 04, 2008 12:17 pm

Anyone getting a virus warning when logging onto the forum page? This is the first time when I brought the page up and got a request for cookies. I denied it and immediately got a message from Mcaffee that I had something detected as JS/Generic Exploit i Trojan. Then a minute latter another one detected as JS/Downloader -BCZ.

I shut down my browser removed the viruses and came back a couple hours later. Got the another cookie request, denied it and then only got the first virus again.

I haven't hit that on THIS site, but have on DMGENIE.COM, and now they are down. I'm more worried that I did NOT get the warning than I am that you did....maybe my definitions are out of date.

It seems to happen when someone gets in and enters code at the beginning of the page code to partially redirect you...not sure if this is happening here because as noted I'm not getting the message here.

I didn't get it when I logged in to check your reply. That's strange. I did make sure the second time and this time that I didn't have any other pages opened.

Yes, I got this yesterday and it darn near froze my machine. Had to cut the connection and run virus checker.

Yes, I saw it. It triggered a McAfee scan. Then I shut down the browser and logged-in later with no problems.

There seems to have been another virus on the main page which I noticed at home last night and at work at lunchtime but now seems to have disappeared again.

Google Chrome was reporting "malicious web site" as well, but when I clicked "show me the details," it basically said, "uh, nope, not really malicious in any way. Huh."

I got the same warning message using Chrome yesterday, but today the false positive is long gone.

Every time I log in I get attacked. Fortunately Norton stops it all.

Yeah, well, stupid me. I denied the first request but thought that maybe it was some Green Ronin thing and accepted the second time because I forgot about the first bad feeling about it that I'd had. Nothing seemed to happen so I ignored it and this posting which was dumb, super-dumb. I turned my system off for a few days and when I tried to restart it couldn't find the boot file, I don't have a boot disk, and now I have to bring it to GeekSquad in order to not lose my iTunes files plus everything else....
Lessons:
1. backup
2. keep virus file updated
3. Norton is a virus too so always ask techie friends what the best antiviral is
4. Heed the warnings
5. that online porn isn't ALWAYS the culprit
6. backup
7. it's okay to cry.......

Which browser are you using?

I've not encountered any and I'm using Firefox 3.0.3

Either that, or I've got tons of nasty viruses and I don't even know about it.
