On-line Game

Postby jayouzts » Wed Feb 20, 2008 6:04 pm

Would anyone be interested in playing a weekly game on-line?

The campaign would be a fantasy homebrew I converted from D&D. There are several non-traditional races open as PC's (Kenku, Giff, Fire Newts, Yak-folk as well as Dwarves, Elves, and Humans). The world has the technology of the Renaissance era. At the time the campaign starts, a great religious war (somewhat like the Thirty Year's War) has just ended. The campaign is set in the city where the peace talks are to take place.

I expect to use either Gametable (which is freeware) to run the game, though I could use Fantasy Grounds if everyone who signs up happens to own a copy.

I am in the Central Time Zone (-6 GMT) and would like to play on a weeknight.

You should try out MapTool from RPTools. Not only is it free, but it's also got a ton of useful and easy to use features and is constantly being updated.

I have thought about this a bit and might be willing to try a Wednesday night game. I am more interested in using Screen Monkey, as it doesn't require use of software except for the GM. The players just need a web-browser.

Thoughts?

One option for online gaming is play by post. Its pretty good for those with busy schedules. Nice because each player can take his turn as he has rime (within reason). And easy to have players from any timezone.

Iv been told http://rpol.net is a good place to just it. But Iv always run play by post on message boards so I cant vouch for it other than just good word of mouth.

Currently I am extensively Play by Post (PbP) Gamer, do to my geographical location. I started on rpol.net, but I didn't care for it then. That site, IMO, does not limit accounts, so you get a lot of 'fruity' players that start, drop a game, make another account, and start all over without the common courtesy to let everyone know they had dropped out of the game. This is just my personal opinion of course.

Thankfully I found; PBPHouse.com and Myth-Weavers.com They seem to have more reliable posters and members.

By all means check out RPoL.net, but keep in mind it isn't the only game in town.

I am interested in this particular thread so that I can get my fast paced game fix on, as PbP seems to take a LONG time. I have one 'True20 intro game' (3 days of in game time) that has been going for +/- 6 months. Great RP though!

I am not particular to any particular software program. I have tried the demo version of Screen Monkey and it was pretty good. I don't mind spending the money to buy SM (and the time to learn it) if I get some committed players.

As for PBP - its not really my cup of tea (too slow).

Thanks for the Info. RPol was just the only one I was familiar with. I used to run games for my friends over yahoo messenger. Its free and easy to use. send hand out over it and every thing. matter of a fact i got two account names tied into one account. So they had me on under two names. When I sent some one something from the other game it was In character, under my usual name it was OOC.

Just an idea....

Hmmm. I'm partially interested, especially because I haven't played a DnD game in years. The only problem I see with myself now is that I'm quite busy since this is my last semester, and I also plan to run a True20 game during the next months.

But once it's summer, and afterwards, I think I will have plenty of time.

And yeah, I don't like PBP for the same reason, too slow, and oftentimes the campaign dies in the first adventures.

RPOL is ste up very well to handle PbP, with the ability to create private threads, inbed secret comments for some players, etc.. But it does have a high number "fruity" players and GMs as TB says.

I've played in about 10 rpol games, and GMed 1. The one I GM died because of players backing off without warning, but of the ones I've played in, only 1 is still going (and very strongly I might add). But that's because I'm playing with a friend, his brother, and a very dedicated gamer as the 4th member. No flakes there.

PbPhouse has a much better ratio though (closer to 60% in my case).
