Royal Road Cards?

Postby ravenwood1974 » Sat Apr 15, 2006 6:35 am

Is there any chance we will see a deck of these specialized Tarot cards? That would be an awesome extra!

You know, we'd never really talked about doing something like that. You're right, though, that would be pretty cool.

Heck, you could probably market it to people who just like having pretty Tarot cards (or who collect Tarot decks) in addition to Blue Rose gamers.

Seconded.

I know I would be more than happy to slap down money for a deck. A lot of gamers love little extras like that (especially if they're done well). Source books are fine as long as they are useful, but I really geek out over having props.

I also agree with the idea that Tarot card collectors may be interested simply because it is a Tarot deck.

I really hope we see this someday.

Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, the artist who did all three BR covers and much of their interior art, has been working on a Tarot deck, though it won't be ready until at least 2008. While it's not Blue Rose-specific, the artwork she has posted online is certainly evocative of the genre. And the info page there does mention that she has yet to line up a publisher...

Having the Cards of the Royal Road in hand would definitely be a treat.

In their absence, there are some nice tarot decks out there. The main one I used as reference, while writing the Royal Road material, is the Hanson-Roberts Tarot. It has a romantic fantasy mood, and the minor arcana have many appealing and evocative characters.

Oh yeah. Props rule. I would definitely buy a deck of royal road cards as well.

Damn. Those are beautiful!

I'de love to see those in print, and whoever publishes them should see a nice return on investment.

Yeah, Stephanie does such beautiful work. She'd be the first one I'd look to for a custom tarot deck.

I know for a fact I'd end up buying two copies. (One for my wife, one for me.)

When Arthaus did the same for the Ravenloft setting, the tarokka sold out pretty well.
It was a REALLY good product.

I'd buy it. :)

I think GR should look into it. Fans are willing to buy stuff like that... look at all of the merchandising White Wolf has peddled over the years. Heck you could even build a small supplement (a few pages) around using the cards in a game.

Besides which it's a fairly safe bet that many fans of romantic fantasy are interested or know someone who is interested in tarot cards. My girlfriend would snap these up in a flash.

So, now that Green Ronin has a Deck of Many Things out, does that mean anything for our chances of seeing an official Blue Rose Tarot deck?

The one posted above by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law is breathtaking and she still seems to be looking for a publisher!

At any rate I plan on getting at least one set of Law's cards once they become available.

I know several people, gamers and non gamers who would buy a deck made by her. Heck, I know the owner of a New Age bookstore who would stock it.
