Multiclassing In Blue Rose

Postby Ragwaine » Tue Jan 23, 2007 3:12 pm

Currently I have the Blue Rose book and the companion but no other T20 books. I'm running a campaign in my own world and I'm curious about multiclassing.

When a character starts with one role and then assumes another role at the next level do they really get all the starting feats of that role? It seems to me that it would make sense (from a munchkin point of view) for every character you create to have one level of each role then pick one to specialize in.

Without arcane spell failure it seems that every 1st level adept would want to take a level of warrior to pick up all 3 armor feats and then put on a suit of plate mail. Also they would immediately be proficient with all martial weapons and get 2 more feats to boot.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No After the first level you only get 1 feat per level even if you add a new role. You get the bounus noted in the book for the new role;s lvl and the feat is those advalabe for the role you take the lvl in.

Excellent, that's exactly what I wanted to hear.

Thanks!

Note that as the BR rules stand, it's very tempting for characters to take 1st level as Expert no matter what they want to be. The Expert role is heavily 'front loaded' - Experts get a lot of skills at first level, but nothing special after that (except for having two 'good saves'). See the thread "All good things" for a fix to that.

Shockingly enough none of my 4 players picked expert. Mostly because I setup a bunch of 1st level paths and they picked from those. Ended up with 2 warriors (a Master - expert in one weapon & an Ancestral - a figther that calls on the power of his ancestors in the way of choosing a martial feat at the beginning of everyday instead of just having the same one all the time) and 2 adepts (a Finder - a kind of diviner and a Quintesent - a healer that uses his powers to unite the 5 other religions in my game). They are already talking about multi-classing but taking levels in expert after 1st shouldn't overbalance things. Right?

With the standard rules, there are very few reasons to take an Expert level after the first, unless you desperately want one of the Expert feats. Experts do, however, get either one extra Good Save or +1 defense, so some may be tempted to take one Ex lvl to get that +1 defense (which I don't think is too unbalancing, compared to what Warriors get every level). If they do that, there's very little reason to take a second Expert level later on - you only get the +1 defense once, while the Good Save is more spread over multiple levels.
